One of the tasks of libraries is to promote the hobbies and self-development of citizens. Libraries play a significant role in enabling and inspiring reading. In the music departments of libraries, we work similarly to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to develop themselves in the field of music.

Loanable instruments are a good way to achieve this goal. With an instrument borrowed from the library, you can easily and free of charge try out whether playing an instrument would suit you. You can suggest new borrowable instruments to be purchased. We cannot fulfill all the wishes, however.

The instruments have a two-week loan period. The loans cannot be renewed, and the instruments cannot be reserved. The same customer cannot borrow the instrument again immediately after returning it, for other customers must also be given the opportunity. The reservation and return to other libraries is prevented mainly because of the large size of the instruments: they do not fit on the reservation shelves, let alone in the transport boxes with books. However, some of the ukuleles can be reserved.

You can also borrow sound and recording equipment from the Jyväskylä main library. With a vinyl record player, you can listen to your old records or the Lps you have borrowed from the library. It also has a handy digitization option for a USB stick. You can borrow the portable Zoom H6 when you need a mobile recording device.
